Individual video (Our Connection, Our Cycle)

My Video Link:

Humans, a most curious life form to walk the Earth, no matters how different they are from each other, if they reach out to each other, the unseen connection between them will strengthen, their action will influence one another, their emotion will trigger one another, and their thought will affect one another. However, not everyone embrace the connection we have, and sometimes, they don’t even notice the connection’s existence. The problem in the current society right now is that we spend too much time on academics, jobs, economy, technology and so on rather than spending time trying to ‘reach out’ with our own kind, we forsaken our bond to gain something materialistic and profitable. If every human can realize the capabilities of these connections, imagine the good it can bring, the motivation it can bring, and the unity it can form.

For this assignment, the problem I have manage to identify is pretty much what was mentioned on the 1st paragraph, I was a lonely person, never bother with any other people and what they do, I have always forsaken those who treated me good, I took their kindness as deception, I’ve never truly bonded with anyone, and have always spend most of my time alone. This made a weak person in the perspective of emotion, social, and also skills. Because never bother with any other people, I never get to compete and improve myself as a person. And so from this problem, I manage to find the solution of realizing the connection I have with other people, I need to take the 1st step to strengthen that bond so that I can improve myself as a person.

Just like the quotes in the movie EPIC, ‘Many Leaves, One Tree’, no matter far u sprout from the branch as a leaf, you will need the branch to support you, no matter how big of a tree branch you are, you are always connected back to the trunk of the tree, and no matter how big tree you are, you will need the leaves to provide you food (photosynthesis). To put it simple, there are always connections between everything to make things work.

In the video, I portrait the ‘connection’ people have with each other in the form of influence where, when the 1st person manage to take the 1st step and influence (in this case in the form of helping) a person, it will create a cycle of influence among people through the ‘connection’. And if you realize, the cycle comes back to the 1st person who decided to help, this represent that if you reach out to people, they will in turn answer your call. It might not be in the same form of what you gives, but it will happen.

Another thing to take note of is the tree like structure candle stand I manage to create, the tree structure itself represents the cycle, the body (trunk) represents the connection, connecting the branches where it splits into different routes, these routes represent different results of the connection, while the flower like object represent goodness, the flower is in the blooming form, so in a way it is portraiting each result blooms, giving different experience and effects. And lastly the candle represent the ‘influence’. Here are some picture showcasing the candle stands.

Tioman Excursion

On the 1st day of our arrival to Tioman Island, we were given the whole afternon to prepare for upcoming assignment we will receive from Mr.Charles, and Mr.Stephen. During that night after dinner, we were given the task of choosing a specific theme that involve the Tioman Island as our visual focus to create a photo album, I manage to form a group with Lisa and Azlinar for this assignment. After a night of discussion, our group agreed on using water as the main focus for our visual. In the beginning, I didn't have a strong image on how we should represent the visual of using water, but then during one evening, 2 of my female classmates were playing with the sea water at the shallow area, behind them was the majestically stunning orange shade of the sunset, I grab this opportunity and managed to got some very interesting photos, the photo was able to give me a very calm yet grand and mystical feeling as if I'm at the beginning of time witnessing the moment where the world itself is formed. Then it hit me hard, by using this calm yet grand mystical feeling as a guidelines, we were able to relate our theme (water) as the source of life, and thus decides to put our photo album in a story telling manner, portraying how the world was form by the 'higher beings'.

And for our second day of the excursion, we were finally given by Mr.Charles our brief of the assignment, an envelop of tags (currency of the story), and also our 1st clue to solve the problem surrounding the 'Salang Kingdom'.

The story goes in such a manner: The ruler of Salang Kingdom , The Queen (Ms.Lisa) died of conspiracy, due to the Queen does not name a rightful heir to the throne, a rise of power struggle happened among the power holders. Amidst this power struggle, there involve a series of mystery surrounding 3 important figures of this kingdom, namely the Sage (Mr.Charles) the righthand man of the Queen, Lord Vicul (Mr.Stephen) the trustworthy general of the kingdom, and Princess Cassiopeia (Ms.Cassy) the princess-in-name assistant of the queen. And under the guidance of the Sage, we his disciples are to investigate the mystery of Salang Kingdom.

Our investigation goes on for the whole night, and during the investigation we were also require to obtain 'proof' from the 3 main figures of the kingdom, and then implement it into the T-shirt we were asked to brought along, each group are expected to come up with a visual of their own and print it into the T-shirt using any method desire. After all that investigation, we were to come up with an answer of our own as to disclosed the mystery of the Salang Kingdom, and during our disclosure of answer, we have to pick a faction to support and implent the given colours of that specific faction into our T-shirts' collor.

(us working to construct our T-shirts)

The Jester Freaks (Zuliana, Rosey, Aina, Li Wei, Sam) has the closest prediction to the actual truth, and so we were announced winner of the excursions. We celebrate the victory with supper of BBQ!!!

All in all, I was able to pick up a few things before we went home, mainly the patiance and will to endure challanges given to us and also communications between group members is very important as it allowed a better and solid base of teamwork with each other. Another lesson i was able to learn is the importance of time management (we skip our dinner to solve the mystery) and pre-planning process. As a soon to be designer, I felt this lesson I learnt would help me to better construct myself as not only a good designer but a better person to walk the long path of life.

Group Archetypes (Jester Freaks!!!)

Hello again,

For this post, i would talk about my group for our Tioman excursion.

My group for Tioman excursion:
We called ourselves the Jester Freaks, why u asked? Well, when we form our groups, we were given the task of coming with a logo and a representation of our groups. So when me and groupmates, Zuliana, Aina, Rosey and Li Wei were discussing about it, we listed down all our archetypes to find a common point to pin it down in order to better represent ourselves, however that did not go as planned as there was no common archetypes among the 5 of us, because of this, we decide to explore more about archetypes that are not limited to the Webpage Archetype.me. Surprisingly, we discovered that our common archetype is Jester (info on Jester:http://www.soulcraft.co/essays/the_12_common_archetypes.html). And so, with this common archetype, we decided to call ourselves the Jester Freaks. The Jester represents our archetypes while the Freaks represent our strange behavior as designers.

After deciding on the representation of our groups, we were ask to identify a problem and its solution as a team using the colored cap technique. This is the results:

My Archetype

Hello all, as a part of our contextual exploring assignment, we were ask to discover our own archetypes. The webpage Archetype.me was introduced to us for our exploration, through answering a set of quiz the webpage has provided, I was able to identify my 3 main archetypes, namely Gentlemen, Creative, Athletes.
-The gentlemen is identify as tastemaker, trendsetter, host, and diplomat.
-The creative is identify as creator, performer, artist, story teller.
